Burberry was born in 1856 by 21 year old Thomas Burberry with the main focus of the brand being the development of outdoor clothing. Most famous for their trench coat, worn by British officers in the trenches during world war 1. After the war, the trench coat was extremely popular with members of the public, much like it still is today. Early 1920’s the famous Burberry Check was now registered as a trademark and introduced as a lining to the trench coat.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Burberry branched out and expanded their range with the developments of suits, shirts, trousers, and sportswear. Designed and produced at the headquarters in London England, and distributed through Burberrys own stores and independent stores worldwide, sales and profits skyrocketed through the late 1990s.
Fast forward to the 21st century and Burberry is one of the most luxury brands out there. With their popularity ever growing and now selling in over 500 stores worldwide, Burberry has turned their attention to help develop solutions towards the environmental issues that are faced by the fashion industry and by joining a partnership with the Ellen Macarthur foundation ‘make fashion circular’ initiative, Burberry hopes other brands will follow on in their footsteps.
Continuously striving to improve their products, Burberry has recently appointed Riccardo Tisci as the chief creative officer who has worked tirelessly with Peter Saville to launch a new brand logo and monogram. Burberry now has lines in suiting, outerwear, sportswear, accessories, fragrances, and sunglasses, which you can find on our brother2brother website.
