Pierre Balmain served in the French Air Force and the Army Corps of Engineers. Shortly after the declaration of peace at the end of World War II, Pierre founded his eponymous French fashion house out of celebration. However, Pierre's journey into fashion started long before his first store opened in Paris, in fact, it can be said that fashion ran through Balmain’s veins. He would spend time in his father's drapery and would go on to work in his mothers’ fashion boutique after his father died. From 1933 to 1934 he attended the Ecole de Bozar to study architecture, but his attention soon turned to fashion and after graduating from school, Pierre would go on to work for Britain's leading fashion designer Edward Molyneux.
